What is amlou?

Amlou is a traditional Berber nut paste made from roasted almonds, argan oil and honey, stone-ground in a millstone. Rich and naturally sweet, it is enjoyed at breakfast or as a snack — the Moroccan answer to a luxury nut butter, with centuries of know-how behind every jar.

Culinary argan oil: cold-pressed

Our culinary argan oil has a warm golden colour and a distinctive hazelnut flavour that comes from lightly roasted kernels. Cold-pressed without solvents, it retains all its vitamins and essential fatty acids. Drizzle over couscous, salads or grilled vegetables for an authentic taste of Morocco.

How to store amlou and argan oil

Keep argan oil away from direct light and heat, in a cool, dry place — it keeps for up to 18 months. Store amlou in the same conditions; once opened, seal the jar tightly and consume within several weeks. A little oil may rise to the top — that’s perfectly natural, just stir before use.

The Souss Women’s Cooperative: ancestral know-how

Our products are handcrafted by women’s cooperatives in the Souss region of southern Morocco — the only place on Earth where the argan tree grows. These artisans use ancestral techniques passed down through generations, cracking the kernels by hand and pressing them cold. A fair-trade supply chain that puts the cooperatives at the heart of every bottle and jar.

How to enjoy our products

Spread amlou on toast or flatbread for a Moroccan-style breakfast. Drizzle culinary argan oil over a couscous, a salad or a cheese board. Use both in a tasting board alongside dried fruits and Medjool dates — a simple way to share a piece of Morocco with your guests.

Frequently asked questions

What is amlou?

Amlou is a Berber nut paste made from roasted almonds, argan oil and honey, stone-ground in a traditional millstone. Rich, naturally sweet and additive-free.

Is culinary argan oil different from cosmetic argan oil?

Yes. Culinary argan oil is pressed from lightly roasted kernels, giving it a warm hazelnut flavour. Cosmetic argan oil is cold-pressed from unroasted kernels for skin and hair use. They are produced by different processes and are not interchangeable.

How long does amlou keep once opened?

Seal the jar tightly after each use and store in a cool place away from direct light. Amlou keeps for several weeks once opened. A layer of oil may form on top — that’s natural, simply stir before use.

Are your products certified additive-free?

Yes. All our products are cold-pressed with no additives, no preservatives and no flavourings. They are sourced directly from our partner cooperatives in the Souss region, guaranteeing authenticity and traceability.
